Light eyes and dark minds and feel nothing

Colour code of the day; silver bullets and black as black as midnight on a moonless night. Or as black as the moist ink on my thesis sketches. Those creatures on the paper consume most of my daily hours and when I escape them at night, they invade my dreams.

I rather enjoyed this odd outfit, silver deer antlers and hoof-like shoes and new shimmery lids to dream under. This dark and silvery colour scope seems to be my code for most days, some of you have asked don't I ever get bored with black and I can say that I don't really miss wearing colours. This, like all sides of style, might change in the future, who knows! I love colours, but I don't need vibrant shades around when my imagination is already filled with them.

Quickly the silver found its way into my suitcase too. Tomorrow I'm heading off to Helsinki Burlesque Festival weekend, the train engines start to roar in the early hours of the morning and I still have no clue on what to wear! Sounds so familiar..! So I'll just pack some treasures and conjure up something from the chaos when I get to the headquarters, a.k.a my sister's sofa. Sounds like a plan.

I wish you all have a lovely weekend!
I'll be working part-time at the festival so feel free to come and say hi if you happen to see me. :)

Weekend rollings!

♥!

Last weekend was a roller derby weekend! Needless to say it was a blast in more than one way, I'm still covered in nicely purple bruises from neck to toe. We had a scrimmage workout with our own team on Friday and a more formal scrimmage game on Saturday, against a group of lovely Rollin' Ragdolls from Jyväskylä. The final score was 252-75 on our scrimmage team's (Pilluminati) favour, yayy!

I even scored a few points myself, jamming is just often so nerve-wracking that I prefer hitting and blocking other ladies. Although I'm really working on my zen peace, I'd love to do more jamming just because I love speed so much! None of that speed was present on Saturday though, the floor was new to us and slippery like hell on my hard wheels. Now I know how Bambi felt on ice, damn I need a pair of wheels with some more grip!

Unfortunately there's not so many photos I can publish right away, so the jumping group pic and the after party outfit will have to do. :) There's many games and even a couple of bootcamps coming up in the months of spring, so there's loads of derby pics ahoy!

Outfit was captured by my friend, thanks hon!

Dances with Wolves

"From beasts we scorn as soulless,
in forest, field and den,
the cry goes up to witness,
the soullessness of men"

-M. Frida Hartley

I look just like Jon Snow here, haha!! Game of Thrones Season 3, please come soon.
Winter jacket, gloves and tights are from mom, biker boots are my sister's, dress is also second hand and the bag is from Lindex, I think.
Silver jewelry (not really visible here) from MoonRavenDesigns and Fashionology.

I've been visiting my childhood home with my sister for a few days now, and will depart for my own home tomorrow. My dear mom was kind enough to snap these winter stroll outfit pics for me although she pretty much hates being on both sides of the camera! For starters I'd like to highlight that the collar in the jacket is 100% fake. I would NEVER wear genuine fur, not even in vintage. Never. The jacket is made of recycled wool and polyester and I got it from my mom through H&M's discount rack. So I guess double thanks to her are in order.

And now for my other subject.

Something horrible happened in this town a while ago, something that makes my blood boil like hellfire. And I wish to share the cause of this feeling, regardless of usually keeping this blog mainly for shallow things.

Some local hunters were caught red-handed by the law while illegally preparing to kill wolves. You know, those painfully beautiful and wise animals that have every right to coexist in this northern land. This however happens to be something many people in my country can't understand. Innocent wolves are slaughtered day by day, merely for the nudges of fear in the feeble hearts of men. While fighting against poachers in other countries I almost forgot how this happens in my own one as well! It's tragic to witness how homo sapiens hasn't evolved from the caveman days, but still trembles in the unnecessary fear and scorn towards other animals, reaching for security in guns because their closed minds can't wrap around the beauty and diversity of nature. No creature is as dangerous as a human suffering from fear.

There's no reason to hunt these magnificent beasts to the brink of extinction (there's only about 120 individuals left here!), there's nothing that could ever justify this persecution. Makes me ashamed to belong to this race, but I still hope that some day compassion and a wider form of intelligence will reach these people, I do. I just wish I could do more to help.

My rant, for now, ends here. I wish you all a good and peaceful night,
and I hope that the future generations might still be able to hear the wolf's howl slicing the air.

Seeing Red

Another week just disappeared, gah! Did you see where it went? I sure didn't. Free time seems to be an illusion in my life right now.

My current colour code includes deep, succulent shades of red. Apparently I have nothing in the hue of wine or oxblood in my closet, but lipstick and nail polish gave a hand here, and the comics I'm biting through have red in them too.

American Vampire is the best comics find I've had in a while, the artwork is wonderfully dynamic and I'm especially fond of the way the series portrays different vampire species. It's violent, crude and although the story takes place in the old times it still has a modern feel to it. It feels good to see honestly monstrous and blood-thirsty children of the night on these pages, after the huge wave of those glittery sissies. I'm anxious to read the other parts too but someone got ahead of me in the library, so I can only wait.

To continue on the path of red things, for I enjoy theme posts; Here's a candy apple red water boiler that crossed my path the other day. I was just about to purchase this boiler to replace our broken one but  found it in a second hand shop before striking the deal. It's a wonder how often this happens at flea markets, the thing you're looking for just pops right in front of your eyes!

I also felt like sharing these apples with you, because for a little moment they felt like the most miraculous thing in the world. I get moments like these a lot and I want to share more of these random things that touch me, hope you don't mind. Their beauty got my attention at the fruit counter and I had to carry some of them home. The very instant I saw red skies shifting with glowing stars in them, like miniature universes holding life inside of them. But much more scrumptious.

(nailpolishes I used: GOSH, Night Kiss + Bottega Verde, Rubino Scintillante)

And now for the other Apple.

The Apple I'll be staring at school for the months to come whenever my other duties allow me to. This concerns my blog too, I won't be having as much time to update now so please bear with me darlings! I have a deadline lurking ahead of me and I need to finish my thesis and other courses or dig up a gaping hole, six feet deep, in the cold ground of unfinished degrees.

This is the most important focus point in my life now, this is my conquerable Mount Everest and the battlefield I will fight through even if it requires sleepless nights and collateral damage of a social nature. The good news is I'll probably enjoy my ride since the thesis subject is so lovely! I'll try to post whenever I have free time, but as I already said, I'm short of that for the time being.

Wednesday

This Wednesday proved out to be a pretty good one! Lots of plans and secret crafts and some roller derby goodness to sweeten (and sweaten) the last hours of the day. Here's what I wore today (yet again the shoes were different for outside walks, damn you Finland). I enjoyed this outfit surprisingly much, it's girly feel was something I'm not quite used to, and also because it reminded me of one of my all-time favourite girls, one that I can always relate to. Not too hard to guess who, but you can find the answer by scrolling to the end of this page. ;)

The dress is a combination of a thrifted collar and a black dress I got with a H&M gift card. My fingers have been buzzing to create this project for months! I just couldn't find the suitable dress before. The sweet round peter pan collars weren't my cup of tea as much as these sharp ones. The pointy collar makes the outfit feel a tad more mischievous, but the spiked shoes might have something to do with that as well. I fished them from eBay a while ago, somehow Jeffrey Campbell shoes usually remind me of dinosaurs! These are my first ones and I might name them after stegosauruses because of those spikes. :> Sadly they're a tiny bit too large for me so I'll probably have to let them go and try to hunt down smaller ones.

And I just had to add these gifs here! (All found from tumblr.)

And the best one!
"Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies?":

Hehee, I love it!
I think I might watch some Addams Family with a cup of steaming tea now,
hope you have a great night!
