The Raven

*Sponsored post!*

"But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only,
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing further then he uttered - not a feather then he fluttered -
Till I scarcely more than muttered `Other friends have flown before -
On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before.'
Then the bird said, `Nevermore.'"

I was asked to photograph and portray a few designs by a doll Etsy seller, Dahlia Deranged. Being an old customer of hers my answer was a resounding yes! There's something so bewitching in the mix of dark silvers and bird skulls that makes the more material chambers of my heart beat rapidly, and so these grim birds (and one ghostly bumblebee!) flew across the Atlantic ocean to perch upon the pallor of my skin.

As you might have noticed, I have a thing for ravens and the rest of the corvid family.
Obsession, perhaps. When I was in high school I used to sketch bird skeletons everywhere, and I knew most of Poe's most beloved poem by heart. Some verses I still do. The raven spread its wings on my thesis and one even sits inked on my skin, and more of its inked kind will some day appear on other parts, no doubt.

Needless to say, I love these pieces!
The simpler ones go wonderfully with more graphic outfits and the more decorative ones
match victorian and vintage tinted outfits beautifully.

"And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted - nevermore!"

If you enjoy these designs I recommend checking out Dahlia's shop!:

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good!

Well I solemnly swore that I would never wear beige, but crazy spandex (another thing I thought I wouldn't wear) does tricks to your mind. Especially when it's covered in an irresistible map print!

I immediately knew I had to get my hands on this piece from Black Milk Clothing's Harry Potter-collection and snapped mine the very minute it was released.  Mischief managed! I wished to snap a few other things too but I'm trying hard not to buy too many new things these days, with a few exceptions like this of course. Although the fabric choice isn't fully "me", I feel spellbound by this mini dress!

(I look so haughty in this pic that I scare myself a little!)

So guess what's my plan for tomorrow and the days to come? That's right, HP all the way. I watched them all not three weeks ago (!) when I was visiting my parents but hey, sometimes a little too much of Hogwarts isn't still enough.

(I'm still waiting for my owl to arrive.)

Changes!

Hi there lovelies! As you can see the blog has gone through a little visual transformation. I wanted to make it look clearer and more neutral to my eyes, but in a way that still suits my stories. I hope you like it too! I owe big thanks to my friend Teemu for pulling me through that crazy code jungle. There were such carnivorous code plants and killer links that could have easily devoured my poor little skills!

I might still tweak a few details and add more widgets in the days to come, so don't wonder if something looks funny while you visit the page. :) And please let me know if something's not working correctly, especially if the linkbar font doesn't show the way it should. Thank you! ♥

13

The day of ill omens has passed so quickly. But most days do, it's been hard to get a grip on the daily hours lately since there are no routines to guide my life. Do you usually get thrilled about this day of superstitious black clouds, or wait for the axe to fall on your head at any given second?

I've been mostly struggling with fatigue after a night spent with dystopian horrors including a gene-mutating mist that poured over the city buildings. In the real world I just dragged a new batch of clothes and other excess belongings to the local flea market, to clear out my mind, wardrobe and home. (In case some local reader is interested in going through them, head to Valintakirppis in Joensuu! The place is 69 (easy to remember, right?) and I share it with my friend Hannah until next Wednesday. Many things have gone already but there's still a lot of clothes waiting for a new home. And more might come! Go and take a peek!)

I hope no bad luck has fallen upon you today , and wish you a weekend filled with good fortune!

Japanese Whispers

Some moments are like special glimpses of life with surreal undertones, little sequences that afterwards feel more like a beautiful dream.

I'd like to share one of those moments from this summer with you, a picnic with two wonderful, always inspiring ladies that I'm proud to call my friends. The photos are phone quality as I didn't carry my camera with me, but they open a portal to the evening nonetheless. I had no idea about a Japanese garden in Helsinki, but I'm glad I had the chance to experience it, and in such an elaborate way!

Special thanks go to Laura, if I only had known what kind of a prop she took with her I would've definitely put some more effort on my looks and wrapped myself inside a kimono. Just look at those treasures she brought with her; black silken lamps, cherry blossom embroidered blankets, black sushi, paper plates, everything! Even the precious visiting dogs fit the atmosphere somehow.

Here's my outfit for the evening, no oriental vibes there but I'll fix that for the next time. Which I sincerely hope will come someday!

Long dark veins and records playing memories

Happy September lovelies!

An outfit from a weekday night, shot in the attic in the middle of dust, tiles and the sickly buzz of dying flies. Dress is a recent flea market find, jewelry from many places, bag by Minna Parikka and Pennangalan shoes were snapped from ebay. The shoes always make me feel witchy! But then again, it might just be the beginning of autumn that always awakens that feeling.

This week has turned out to be a really nice one, I've deliberately seemed oblivious to negativity even when it pokes me right in the eye. To share a couple of those good things; I found out that Chelsea Wolfe, one of my all-time favourite female singers, is coming to our little Northern country after all! And now I have a precious ticket for the evening! First I thought her tour would skip us but heavens no. I haven't heard Russian Circles before but I'm sure I'll enjoy them, they can't be all bad if they pair up with Ms.Wolfe. And the tour poster is just bleak and beautiful.

I really recommend this gig if you're into melancholic female voices, dreamy sound landscapes and great talent.

Pizza is also a good source of joy, and this one was heavenly so I just had to share it. Self-picked winter mushrooms, smoked tofu, sliced red onions, sun dried tomatoes and the usual tomato smash on the bottom. And not a single drop of dairy, because I am not a calf. Delicious! I could survive through summer with raw smoothies but autumn makes me long for cooking, especially stews, hot soups and mushroom delicacies. It invokes some dormant homemaker side in me which feels a little scary..

Today I'll be heading towards the woods for berry and mushroom hunting with my mom. I hope the forest will offer us plenty of those treats!
