Day 17: My current top 10 in cosmetics

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfumes. There's been a couple of posts about them earlier in this blog, and my affection for these magical little bottles still hasn't budged. Poisoned Apple is a delicious favourite of mine. Both the names and the scents of these perfume oils are all wonderfully imaginative! Here's a description from the shop's site: "Our scents run the aesthetic gamut of magickal, pagan and mythological blends, Renaissance, Medieval and Victorian formulas, and horror / Gothic-themed scents."

Eyelashes! The ones in the photo are from Red Cherry.

DUO lash adhesive. Keeps the lashes on better than any other adhesive I've tried! The tube says that the adhesive stays good for 24 months, but exactly after 9 months I start to get allergic reactions and have to dose the usage of this product for a while. Reasonable consumption recommended for all sensitive skinned people. :)

Urban Decay Primer Potion. It's like a micro-sized genie that makes your eye make-up stay put through the hours of night and day. One thousand and one nights might be too much for this genie, but a couple of bottles of this primer would probably do the job.

Extra note: Urban Decay was one of my fave cosmetic brands, but I just found out that it's been very recently sold to L'Oreal, which makes it impossible to purchase any more make-up from them as I don't wish to support the fiendish mother ship. I must admit that I shed a tear or two because so many of the best companies have changed their policies recently and it makes me so sad. So, if any of you dearies know a really great cruelty free primer, I'd highly appreciate the help! (Any experiences of Too Faced's primers?)

Red lipstick! This one goes without saying. In the picture is MAC Russian Red.

♥ Liquid black eye liner, I use that a lot as I'm sure you've noticed. The specimen here is from We Care Icon.

Freeman's facial detoxifying mask, Chocolate & Strawberry. Smells just as delicious as it sounds!

Lily Lolo's Mineral Cover Up, #Barely Beige. It's an extremely light, pigmented shade and it makes broken veins and little spots disappear like a charm. Also works as a light eye shadow.

Missha BB cream, #13. Wonderfully light porcelain shade that goes on evenly, doesn't clog pores and protects the skin, as it has a SPF 42.

♥ And last but definitely not the least; Virgin Coconut Oil. I'm the kind of a girl that uses it for everything, I don't care about the hippie stamp since I'm already almost as hippie as it gets. :D I use coconut oil as cooking oil, hair treatment, conditioner for lips and body, and I put in in smoothies or scoop it in my mouth with a spoon. It's super healthy inside out, such a magnificent 100 % natural product! Some say it even works as a deodorant, but I haven't dared to try that yet, haha.

  1. Ah, I loved this post (definitely gonna try some of these), and your blog in general. I agree that coconut oil is good for skin and hair etc, but I wouldn't use it too much in cooking since it's extremely high in saturated fats unlike other veggie oils.

    1. Thank you, I'm so glad to hear that!

I've heard mixed information about coconut oils cooking abilities, it indeed is high in saturated fats but it doesn't burn like other oils and doesn't produce trans fatty acids or polymerization oils (I hope I got that right in English!) so most people recommend it. Some experts have said that only butter, virgin olive oil and coconut oil are safe to use in frying, and coconut oil is the one that can handle most heat. :)

  2. Kylmäpuristettu kookosöljy alkoi heti kiinnostaa! Olen lukenut siitä ennenkin vain hyvää palautetta. Mistä kyseistä tuotetta saisi hankittua? :)

    1. Suosittelen erittäin lämpimästi, ihan mahtavaa ainetta! Omat purnukkani olen hankkinut Life-myymälöistä, mutta saa ihan varmasti kaikista ekokaupoista ja jopa hyvinvarustetuista ruokakaupoista. :)

    1. Thanks for the tip! :) I'll have to do some research on Nars since I don't know about their policies.

    2. NARS official statement: Nars does not test on animals, nor do we have any other parties, including our suppliers, conduct animal testing on our behalf. Nars uses only the highest quality ingredients which have a proven safety record and are widely used in the cosmetics industry.

I am vegan and only use cruelty free products as well, and I love NARS. I know your penchant for Matte red lips, it's a love I share.
You should look into Amsterdam and Mascate, and Train Bleu is an amazing Black Orchid/Purple color, all Matte but not as drying as say, Ruby Woo.

  5. Nice post, very useful :) I use ArtDeco Eyeshadow Base, keeps eyeshadows all day. They seem to be OK, don't they? Even Urban Decay sold to L'Oreal? Is it time to die?

    1. Glad to hear that :) I've never heard of ArtDeco, I'll have to look into it!
And I know, seems like the apocalypse is coming on all fronts. The deal was struck at the end of November, and although Urban Decay states that they won't change their policies it doesn't help at all as long as the money goes to L'Oreal. Money makes the world go round and so on.. :(

  6. Great top of 10!
I love Misha BB cream so much! It’s Perfect Cover, right? I used Signature Real Complete #13 for a long time and it seems even lighter to me than Perfect cover #13.

    Replies
    1. Thanks! Yes, it's Missha Perfect Cover BB cream. #13 is light enough for me, it blends well with my own skin tone. :)

      Delete
    2. Yulia, is Signature Real Complete #13 really lighter? I watched this review by rottenzombiefairy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7VkuWvMVg0 and she says that Perfect Cover #13 is a bit dark for her, she has to mix it with a white foundation. I thought that I've finally found something light enough, and now I just can't decide whether it'll be a good match for me.

  7. Urban decay sold to L'Oreal? They couldn't have picked a more opposite company to sell to even if they tried O.o
That's not even slightly bending your policy, like with the China uproar earlier this year. That's just completely throwing your old policy out of the window like it never mattered.

My make-up collection is probably not 100% cruelty free, some brands I just don't know the status of, but L'oreal is just one of those companies I do not wish to give my money to.

Too faced's eyeshadow primer is a decent replacement for the UDPP. The primer potion holds your eyeshadow a little longer, but the differences between the 2 products are minimal really.

    1. I know, it feels so weird! The same thing was with the Body Shop a few years ago, it really stuns the customers that believe in cruelty free policies and have trusted a company for a long time. :( And the China market thingy has exploded this year.. It's hard to keep up with different companies since the news of these deals don't always reach all customers, I think companies should be much more open about these matters!

And it's nice to hear experiences about the Too Faced's primer, thank you!

  9. Too Facedin Shadow Insurance on kyllä ihan tismalleen yhtä hyvää kuin UD, mielestäni parempaa. Rakkaus on kestänyt rypyttömänä reilut kolmisen vuotta.

Ja muutenkin blogimaailman tuulia takavuosina enemmänkin seuranneena olen vähän ärsyyntynyt tähän "The Unicorn Queeniin" LC:n takana.

    1. Komppaan Too Facedia! Toimii loistavasti. :)

    2. Okei, tosi kiva kuulla kehuja Too facedin primerista!

  10. Hassua, itsellä on juuri tuo sama aavemainen kuva kehystettynä :D Tykkään itsekin hankkia kehyksiä, tosin vieraat saattavat hieman ihmetellä herra Draculaa ja muita kuvien hahmoja :) Täytyisi kokeilla tilausta tuolta Alchemy Labistä, tosin suuri valinnanvara tuottaa hankaluuksia!

    1. Juu, tuo foto on BPAL:in paketista kehyksiin siirretty! :)

BPAL:in valikoima on todella laaja ja munkin on pitänyt todella tiukasti pitää itsekurista kiinni ettei tilin viimeiset pennoset eksy sinne. Suosittelen lukaisemaan sitä foorumia missä ihmiset kirjoittelee kokemuksiaan, sitä kautta osasin itsekin valita juuri sopivimmat tuoksut!

  11. Too Facedin Shadow Insurance on kuulemma aivan yhtä hyvää kuin UD.

  12. It is so sad to see these great brands selling out and turning to methods I can´t agree with as well. I was devastated to also find out that Mac is now testing on animals.

    1. Me too, of course I'm using my last MAC products to the end but I can't purchase any more products from them. Damn you China! It's sad that so many high quality brands are suddenly changing their companies into the wrong direction. All because of money. :<

  13. I 100% agree with you on MAC Russian Red, Duo Lash Adhesive, UD Primer Potion and BPAL perfume oils! I have so much love for those products too, especially the perfume oils, I just can't get enough of them! At the moment I use Boots 17 BB cream but I have seen and heard so many good reviews on the Missha BB Cream that I'm seriously thinking of giving it a try!
I've browsed the Lily Lolo website a few times in the past but I've never purchased anything from them as I haven't heard too much about their products or the company before. The mineral powder than I use is Everyday Minerals Base in Fair Neutral and it's brilliant! Where do you find your Red Cherry lashes? They're very popular in America but I can't find them here in the UK! ~♥~

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Russian Red was just a specimen in the picture, I meant all red lipsticks. :) I used to enjoy MAC so much but I don't anymore, after the way they changed their company for the worse, just for the China market. I really recommend trying out the "real" BB Creams, somehow I just don't see the Western versions as real ones, hehe. And I use Everyday Minerals Base too, also in Fair Neutral. It's great!

And I buy my Red Cherry lashes from America, through eBay.

  16. Coconut oil can be also used as a lubricant. It may sound strange, but it's 100% natural, very mild and non-irritating. I don't see anything bad about it :) It can also prevent and help some common intimate problems that so many girls suffer from (such as candida, etc...).

When it comes to eyeshadow primers, I've never used any of those expensive ones, so I can't really compare them with the one I use. It is I ♥ STAGE eyeshadow base by Essence, which is a cruelty-free drugstore make-up brand with amazing prices. Do you have it in Finland? This primer has a concealer-like packaging and consistency, which I really like since it evens out the colour of my eyelids, and covers tiny veins that pale people tend to have visible on their lids. Here is the primer: http://www.essence.eu/i-love/i-love-stage-eyeshadow-base.html

    1. That totally makes sense, I see nothing bad about it either! Coconut oil is after all an antibacterial natural product. :)

I've never even heard of Essence, I don't think they sell it here but I could always try eBay if I want to try out that primer. Thanks for the link!

  18. Kookosöljy on kyllä sellainen luonnonlahja ettei mitään rajaa.

Kannattaa ehdottomasti maistaa, herkullista! :)

Misshan voidetta olen tilannut ebaysta, kopioituja tuotteita on liikkeellä joten niitä kannattaa varoa. RubyRuby-alkuinen nimimerkki myy kuitenkin aivan ehtaa tavaraa ja häneltä olenkin tätä tilaillut.

Varmaan kokeilen tuota Too Facedia seuraavaksi. :) Ja Freemanin naamio on ihan huippu, njam!

  21. If you need a really good primer just by some airbrushthinner. In know this sounds crazy but the main ingredients in primers are silicons and an airbruschthinner is pure silicon.
