Sunglasses After Dark

Sun and I, we're not exactly the best of friends. I'm much better off with the moon's luminous glow, although it only borrows its light from the sun.

But I do enjoy summer and especially a nice pair of shades on the days when the sun scorches the earth and when I'm forced to leave my nest before nightfall. Damn that makes me sound like a vampire wannabe but I'm just really sensitive to sun and blinding light, so I prefer to stay indoors in the hottest days. Shadows, shades and high SPF are my good pals during summer!

I purchased this feline pair from Dahlia Deranged's Etsy shop. The right shaped cat eye sunglasses are hard to come by so I was pretty smitten to get these beauties out of the case! Even the case looks glumly neat with skulls and crossbones to match the design. And the tastefully kitschy skulls&pearls decor makes these beauties fun yet elegant! I feel these have just the right vibe between the realms of vintage and goth that I enjoy.

There was also some other gloomy treats in the package, but I'll save them for later.

  2. Aivan ihanat!

  3. They are really cool 8-)
Could I dare to ask how you do your curls? I have long thick hair like you and I feel that using a curling iron takes me such a long time that I start growing moss!

    1. Sure hon! I made these curls with Pearl Wand, it takes about 10-15 minutes to curl the whole head. Lately I've used mostly soft foam rollers, you don't use any heat with them so they're much more gentle to your hair. :) I just put them on at night after I've washed my hair and sleep with them on. You just dry your hair until it's about 80% dry, put on some styling mousse (optional, they work without mousse too but it gives extra hold), roll the softies on, wait for a few hours to let them dry completely and you're good to go! If you use them overnight, the curls become really tight and long-lasting, without any damaging heat.

  10. I always love your curls, they almost make me want to cut my hair in order to be able to curl it, too... Also, I think you're one of very few persons who can pull off such kitschy stuff like skulls and still look classy, the same goes for that fabulous black skull necklace of yours.
And now that you're showing it in such a close-up, I'd be very interested in the meaning of your tattoo, I cannot entirely decipher, let alone translate it. :)

    1. Wow, how long is your hair if I may ask? And thank you, I love kitsch when it's this stylish! I mean really, kitsch can be so great and stylish in my opinion. So it's really nice to hear I can pull it off. ;)

It translates into "don't give up yet", but I think it sounds much better in Finnish. I took it so it would encourage me to finish things (like my thesis). But I don't think tattoos need to have any special meanings, most of mine just always have something little extra behind them. :)

    2. Just about to the middle of my thighs. Sometimes I'm pondering about giving up the length to be able to do more stylings and to wear it down more often, but apparently, I'm not ready yet.
And don't get my saying "kitschy" wrong, I love to wear skulls, too, only in a different kind of style. :)

Thanks for the insight. :) I like it most when tattoos are both asthetical and meaningful.

    3. Wow, your hair sounds amazing! I know the feeling of not being ready for cutting the hair, the longer it gets the easier it is to get emotionally attached to it. Sometimes I think I should cut mine much shorter to be able to pull off some vintage styles, but cutting so much feels too harsh. I'm sure there's a ton of great hairstyles you could try out, like braiding with the most imaginable ways in the medieval style?

And I know what you meant by kitschy, I didn't take it in the wrong way at all. ;)

    4. Yes, it may seem kind of silly to get so much attached, but I know exactly what you mean. But then, I think waist length is pretty perfect for a lot of variations and you still have your bangs for the certain something. (And it's quite satisfying to cut one's hair without actually losing length. :D)
To be honest, I'm often too lazy for complicated braidings since I tend to get tangled in my hair or my arms are on the verge of falling off in the process. Plus, medieval style is not so much for me, but I like to strain my arms now and then for the occasional herring bone braid or such. :)

When I read "I'm just really sensitive to sun", I figured you here in Brazil...if you have to live with our persevering sun... I don't know how severe is the summer in Findand.

    1. Thanks! Finland is so far in the North that the sun isn't the worst possible, but the summers here are getting warmer each year. I think I could cope with sun and warmth everywhere although it's not good for my body. I've been to even Miami beach and I didn't die there, hehe.

It would be wonderful to visit Brazil some day! :)
