1: Cold White Light

It's time for December calendar again! Something for each day; random things, travel things and Yule things nicely mashed together in no particular order.  Last night I fell asleep instead of blogging so that makes two updates for today!

First of all, five things of the moment.

♥ Snow. It arrived for a brief time in October and now it come back to stay. Yesterday night there was a horrible blizzard monster roaming outside our walls, engulfing the brave who ventured out. Grocery shopping felt like a polar expedition! It's strange how the first days of winter feel so incredibly cold, and by the end of the winter you can easily cope with -25°C.

♥ A glass of port, to keep the cold at bay. Best when enjoyed with some British dress drama.

♥ Light eyes, dark lips. I've worn minimal eye make-up pretty often lately, on some days nothing but mascara. My Illamasqua order arrived and I love Pristine (the black matte lipstick seen in the photos) to bits! Nails are covered in Illamasqua's Baptiste, the most gorgeous purple I've ever seen captured in a polish bottle.

♥ A glimpse on a painting I made on Saturday. I left things to the last drop for the annual group show and there was only one day left to create something.. again. I'm kind of getting a behavioral pattern here. Next time I'm going to start early so that I can have something decent to show, haha!

Somehow I don't feel like he is one of my paintings, more like an experiment or a sketch. I do love constellations and pretty men though, so I guess it's adequate. Please don't ask me why I paint blondes so much, as I have no idea and I try not to question it.

♥ Reading Haruki Murakami's words. They can suck you into very strange and wonderful worlds. I highly enjoy literature with surreal undertones.

  2. Oh, snow and port wine, how lovely! I'm starting to long for snow, but it's a mild December so far.

    1. I hope you'll see snow soon, it would be a dreary December if the ground wasn't white! Snowy landscapes and port wine do indeed go well together, yummy.

  3. Oh, I was hoping you'd go for another calender - and your No. 1 bears the same name as one of my favorite albums. :) But I also love those enchanted snow landscapes... we're still waiting for the deep snow here, though.

Kafka on the Shore... still on my to-read-list. I've just finished the 1Q84 books and turned to Chaos (D. Mitchell) which, conveniently, also begins in Tokyo. <3

    1. Oh, I'm so happy some of you waited for this calendar! ^^ And hmm, I think you mean the album by Sentenced? I used to listen to them a lot when I was younger, so many memories.

I can't wait to get my hands on those 1Q84 books, I'm sure they're great!

    2. Yes, exactly. For me, it's one of those albums which are inseparably connected to very special moments and every time you hear the songs they immediately bring you back.

To be honest, it's hard for me to say that it really is "great" because I found it, hm... different and surreal, but maybe that's all the more reason why I'd recommend it.

  4. Jäin tuijottamaan maalausta silmiin hetken aikaa sen jälkeen, kun olin tovin tarkastellut taivasta. Tähdet ♥

    1. Tähdet on kyllä aina ihania, saatan jatkaa tuota taivasta vielä jahka taulu pääsee näyttelystä kotiin. Mulla tuli tuon hepun ilmeestä jotenkin mieleen ne Prometheuksen alkuolennot, hui. Hyvin menee jos omat kädenjäljet pelottaa! :D

Mikä Murakamin kirja on kyseessä? Tuon puolikkaan sivun perusteella on pakko päästä sitä lukemaan!

    1. Mukavaa että tykkäät kalenterista! :) Kirja on Kafka rannalla (Umibe no Kafuka), löytyi englanninkielisenä ainakin Akateemisesta kirjakaupasta.

  10. I can't believe it's been a year since your previous calendar! I'm looking forward to every single of your new December posts. :) I've read every book by Haruki Murakami, except the one about running. He is one of my favourite authors. Do you know someone who writes in a similar style? I know he is a very unique author, but I'd appreciate any recommendation. Minimal eye make-up really comes in handy when being in a rush and a clean eye look with some black eyeliner certainly has a lot of charm. And I love you for wearing black lipstick on everyday basis!

    1. Me neither, the year has flewn by so fast! I'm very happy to hear you enjoy the calendar too. :) What's your favourite book from Murakami, if I may ask? I've read that his inspiration has been for example Franz Kafka and Paul Auster and I do feel that too, but Murakami is still a very unique author, I think. There's a lot of magical realism writers out there with something similar in the strangeness, like Jonathan Carroll, but I'm no expert so I can't recommend more specific authors.

    2. Thanks for the recommendations. :) My favourite book from Murakami is Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. I also love Afterdark - I was so scared during the whole reading, even though it's not a horror story. Kafka on the Shore is also really good. Which ones have you already read?
