10: Grey glimpses of Berlin

Berlin is a true puzzle with a thousand pieces, but a deeply enjoyable one. So beautiful and ugly at the same time, filled with pieces of everything to explore and experience. Marble pillars, high culture and heavenly architecture rule some parts of its anatomy, where as concrete and decadence rule the rest. The city has ghosts of its past lingering under the streets, but it's still so revived and lovely! There's something wonderfully strange going on in there.

I've mentioned before that every city has a different soul inside (and according to Neil Gaiman, a beast. Berlin had a monstrous bear beneath it, if I remember correctly), and you can never know in  advance whether you make friends with it or not. The spirit of Berlin started to grow inside me a little, I could even imagine living there someday.

Travel mode - active. I'm sure you will see more than enough of this in the posts to come.
One of my favourite people in this world
Did you know there's an universal rule that the day is always saved if you manage to see a pug? :>
On that particular day we saw three.
This store had us bleeding for the fact that we don't have a vinyl record player at home!
One night we stumbled into this bunker. My love's old friend took us there and there was a goth club going on,
a lot of fun was spent that night. I still have no idea how we managed to get home that night, ha!
Getting lost at remote bars is nice, once in a while.

I still have a staggering amount of travel photos left and I don't know how to unwind them yet. There might still be some Berlin photos left with more colour in them. Is anyone up for a second post, with some recommendations and random recollections on the trip?

  1. I love that clash between beautiful and ugly, and Berlin always seemed like a very gray city to me. Give me more.

  2. This kind of unplanned bar visits usually turn out to be the best parties ever. Compared to those scheduled ones which sometimes end up being quite bad (especially when I really look forward to go there :D). And I wish I lived in a city with a goth club so much! We only have some goth events from time to time. :(

    1. I also live in a small city with basically zero goth events, so I feel you! It's nice to go in a club once in a while when an opportunity opens. And unplanned bar visits are always the best ones, truly!

  3. Ah I love Berlin, I've been there only a few months ago and I really want to go back soon :) I liked how it seemed that behind every corner a nice, strange little bar or club was hiding. There's just so much to discover :) I would love to see more of your pictures and a few recommendations for my next visit would be great too! & if you ever return I can really recommend the michelberger hotel (http://www.michelbergerhotel.com/), never seen anything like it! x

  5. Definitely! There's always room for more stories of that amazing city! Doesn't help with the travel fever, though... :D

    1. Haha, I'm sure it doesn't! That post will be really random though, but I guess it's not a problem to anyone. Just a few pics and recommendations!

  6. I'd really like to see more of your photos. This clashing of harshly different styles and the grey color compositions create a very special atmosphere, reflecting my general mood these days...
Plus, I've only been to Berlin once and had no real chance to see anything of the city due to the appointments that brought me there, so I'd enjoy some impressions. Seems kind of embarrassing to have never seen one's own capital...

    1. I know that feeling, being in some place and not being able to wander the way you'd wish to. I don't have that many photos left for the next post so it'll be pretty random, but I guess I'd like to share it anyway. :)

  10. En olisi uskonut, että Berliininkin voisi saada näyttämään noin... salaperäiseltä? :)

    1. Aa, kiitoksia! Salaperäisyyttä löytyy jokaisen suurkaupungin alta, uskoisin. :)

  11. Oh, was that goth party at Lovelite called "Flowers of Romance" by any chance? If so, we were probably in the same room at that time :D

  13. I live in Berlin and I wish I had the chance to take a glimpse on you in real life since I'm very happy whenever I stumble over a picture of you or when I read your blog. You should definitely write more about your trip, because it's amazing how you describe the city :)
