18: The Bone Church

Last month we went on a little road trip adventure with my friend Laura, and at one point it led us to the church of Sedlec Ossuary, an hour away from Prague in a sleepy town of Kutna Horà. I don't know when was the last time I actually sought a church on purpose, but this place had to be experienced! It's a pretty dumbfounding -even surreal- sight, and it took some time to realize we were actually there. I don't think I still fully have.

I hope the photos will speak for themselves as my words seem to fail me with this place! I'd suggest not to scroll down further if you feel uneasy about human bones.

Tourist! My bones are still hidden.
It's horrible, but I think this one looks like a band promo pic.

  3. Beautiful photos! We visited the bone church & I found it so difficult to capture it in detail. I wanted to get a 360 degree photo! Also there were so many tourists it was hard to get photos without them in it.

    1. A 360 photo would be so cool! We were lucky to have only a handful of tourists visiting the place, so snapping those pics wasn't too much of a challenge. :)

  4. Seems so empty when you were there. I went there last year in summer and the place was packed with tourists.

    1. November is a good travelling month, I don't like crowded tourist attractions at all and winter makes them more empty. :)

  16. Heck, I live so close to Kutna Hora that I should actually go and visit the ossuary... We have a similar chapel in Poland, Kudowa Zdrój (100 km away from Kutna Hora), but not as impressive :)

  29. Minä olen käynyt tuolla Prahassa lomaillessani joitain vuosia sitten. Oli kyllä sen reilun tunnin bussimatkan arvoinen. Kalmanhajuista, mutta jotenkin todella oudolla tavalla kaunista!

  30. Yes, we have something like that in Poland too :) If you like to visit strange and odd places you should also visit Poland someday. We have here a lot of creepy places! You will love giant Wawel Castle with graves of many great kings and queens, the Dragon's Lair, people buried with no grave and still looking like alive, marvelous giant castle made of salt many feets underground (it was an ispiration for Moria Mines from LOTR movie), the Auschwitz Death Block and - my favourite - Angel of Death in Wroclaw :D
