24

(today's face / birthday card made by my love, Frankenweenie movie was included. I love Mr.Whiskers!
today's shoe choice / one of my fav wines, also a gift)

I was born exactly 24 years ago in the middle of the night and a starry sky of the deepest black, I've been told. Another year has passed and I must admit that I've grown a lot during this one.  I wonder what this new age will bring on my way. Mostly positive things, I hope!

I love parties in general but prefer to spend my own birthdays in quiet, accompanied only by my love, some movies and red wine. I've had the most wonderful day and it seems it'll continue the same way, next stop is Sleepy Hollow!

PS.Happy World Animal Day to all animal lovers! ♥

Frankenweenie!

Today's outfit with a woollen dress and kitschy bone hair clips, nothing extravagant since I only left home for some grocery shopping. The bone clips are icky and fun at the same time, sometimes a healthy dose of kitsch is needed. At least when it makes me feel like a cartoon character.

Judging from the way my head blurs and how my nose resembles a miniature waterfall, I think the flu germs are digging their way into my healthy parts. My spider sense says that the next few days will most probably include a lot of movies, dwelling in the dreamland and gallons of hot blackcurrant elixir, but I don't complain! After so many industrious days I welcome the flu as a healthy pause. I just hope the pause will pass quickly and not linger on for weeks..

I wore the bone clips also last night when we checked out Frankenweenie with a couple of friends. I've been waiting for this animation for over two years, and I'm glad it turned out to be so goood! I love Burton's work to death but honestly, some of his recent films haven't even nearly reached the former glory of his golden days of deep characters and bad (=awesome) special effects.

Stop motion animation however has never disappointed me in the slightest. Frankenweenie was such a beautiful wonder work of puppet art, filled with little hints to old horror classics. Mr Whiskers, my favourite character, is a little legend already. I mean who could resist a fluffy, psychic cat whose droppings are interpreted as omens? Legendary, says I.

Kudos to the choice of featuring the film in black and white, it created just the right atmosphere and feeling of the 1984's version. If you haven't checked out the original version, I strongly recommend it! In the video below are both of Burton's older films, the first one is my all-time favourite animation, Vincent. I'm sure most of you have seen both of them, but for those who haven't, I truly hope you'll enjoy them! ♥

Day 24: Yule night

I'm absolutely too overwhelmed with joy, fatigue and effusive plates of food to come up with anything spectacular for today's calendar, so I'll leave you with possibly the most heartbreaking scene in film history. It's also the film I must watch every Yule Eve, no matter how long I need to burn the midnight oil. My cheeks resemble waterfalls every single time I see this enchanted piece, at the first times I used to sob in the best parts but nowadays I start already at the titles. But there's nothing bad about weeping at something so beautiful, something that reaches deep down and plays your heart in it's own special way.

But now my eyelids are seriously starting to feel like lead, so I've got a long date with the Sandman ahead. Good night to you all, and sweet dreams. ♥

-" Are you stoned or something..?" -"They tried stoning me, my dear. It did not work."

BASE: Missha BB cream NO.13, StarGazer white powder (+ a touch of lipstick on the cheeks)
EYES: Sugarpill eyeshadows: Love+, Tako & Bulletproof, Red Cherry #20 lashes,
Dermosil mascara, Gosh eyebrow pencil

LIPS:  MAC  Hang-Up  cremesheen lipstick

(Muuttaisin muuten vaikka heti Collinwoodin kartanoon, huh mikä unelma!)

Oletteko jo käyneet katsomassa elokuvan, ja mitä olette mieltä?

Friday was the day that I (and so many other Burton fans) had waited for two years, the local premiere of Dark Shadows! I haven't been able to blog about this before since I've been B-U-S-Y with my derby girls. Anyhow, now I had some spare time and I made this make-up look, inspired by the lovely, bloodlusty Barnabas Collins. I really liked his silent era make-up and I threw in the goofy fringe just for the fun of it! And also because my love insisted on it, haha.

And briefly about the movie: in my opinion Dark Shadows was so much better than Alice in Wonderland, which was almost completely ruined with plastic computer-effects. This film was very burtonish yet somehow so fresh, the groovy 70's vibe was such a fun spice! And I'd move to the Collinwood mansion anytime, what a dream house. Dark Shadows wasn't the best work from Burton and it sure doesn't belong to the top 5, but it was very funny and visually gorgeous, nothing more than I anticipated so no dissappointment here. :) Have any of you checked it out yet, and what did you think?

Kesällä on suunnitelmissa jo uusi visiitti. ;)

Hej everyone! It's been a silent week and a half, I spent it living in my suitcase all over Finland. Here's a photo flood from last weekend in Turku (Åbo), you can see my everlasting love for old buildings, unessential details and skeletal trees a bit too much but hang in there.

Turku was a blind spot on the map for me, I didn't know the streets nor the person who kindly took me to stay with her, but both turned out incredibly nice! When I was younger I used to be afraid of falling alone in the middle of new places and people, but now it's one of my favorite things in life. I got lost a couple of times, visited the local roller derby practice and explored the city whenever time allowed it. New things make every cell flicker with live, but I also concentrated on torturing those cells. My hostess inked a couple of new illustrations on me and you can see my happiness through the mixture of PAIN and euphoria on my face. And I'm planning to go there again this summer.;)

Hallowedding!

Vierailin eilen illalla mahdollisesti maailman kauneimmissa Halloween-hääjuhlissa, avioliiton satamaan purjehti joukkuetoveri Wicked Honey ja lähdettiin parin ihanan rullatytön kera juhlistamaan tapausta. Heti juhlapaikan ovesta astuttuani kaduin hiukan että jätin järkkärin kotiin nukkumaan, vanhan pokkarin kuvanlaatu kun on hieman karmivaa mutta halusin vangita edes pari kaunista yksityiskohtaa illasta.

The wedding cake! Or what's left of it..
Danny Elfman ~ The Wedding Song (Corpse Bride soundtrack)

I attended my roller derby friend Wicked Honey's wedding party last night and immediately felt sorry for not bringing a better camera with me. My ancient pocket camera tried it's best to capture even tiny bits of the ambience, it was truly a fun night in good company and unbeliviable surroundings.
The party place was a gorgeous old mansion filled with wonderful antique and horror decor, I'd move in there anytime. All the guests were dressed in horror costumes and the bride and groom were absolutely beautiful in their dark outfits! There were cobwebs and candles everywhere, and I especially loved the idea of the Nightmare Before Christmas wedding cake. I was in a terrible hurry when dressing up, so I had to pick my clothes that popped into my head, but I managed to blend in quite well. Halloween is an easy time for goths, you can wear your normal clothes and people still think you're all dressed up for the occasion. ;)
Lots of love and happiness to the newlyweds! ♥

"My whole life is a darkroom. One. Big. Dark. Room. "

Kyseessä on yksi teinigoottiangstin kruunaamattomista prinsessoista, kuka arvaa? ;)

(I definitely need some more beetle jewellery for this outfit!)

EDIT. had to go full screen, I just love that picture!

The whole week has been shadowed with dark rain clouds that roll silently in the sky and the sands of time that just slip through my fingers into the void. Not to mention the misanthropy concerning almost nonexistent animal rights and the lack of light and free space in our flat that makes photographing pretty difficult. But anyway, here's a few snaps of today's outfit! My new hat is floppy and weird and it brings a touch of oddity to the outfit, but as the person that inspired this purchase and outfit said: "I myself am strange and unusual." Guess who? ;)
