Alice in Wonderland Pop-Up!

I believe it's needless to tell you how much I love Alice in Wonderland. There's just something special about this story that draws me down the rabbit hole year after year; the mad and uncanny characters, tea parties, white rabbits, nonsense storyline, and the whole package really! I also have a keen affection in the art of pop-ups, so you can easily imagine my expression when I opened the first page of this masterpiece by Robert Sabuda.  I've got at least ten different Wonderland book versions and this one's definitely one of the best. Here's some sample pics!:

(And if you can't imagine my face when I opened this, it was something like this in the world of smileys: :----O  immediately followed by this: ___♥ )

And here's the last page, which was also my favorite from this bunch! The card attack blew me away and I can't imagine how long it took to create that, crazily talented people work in mysterious ways.

And here's the book in motion! (the video isn't mine in any way.)

I'm already planning to get the other books as well, I know there's at least Peter Pan and
the Wizard of Oz still waiting for me out there. I hope you enjoyed this post! :)

    1. There's actually a similar pop-up from Beauty and the Beast! You might have noticed it in a couple of pics two posts ago, but maybe I should do a separate post about it too. :) It's gorgeous!

  5. Wow, that is an amazing pop-up book, especially the cards!

I just finished a book called "Alice I Have Been" by Melanie Benjamin. It's a novel about the real Alice in Wonderland that you might enjoy, being a fan of the book and all... :o)

  7. This lovely book reminds me of my childhood books :-) Is your spouse also a fan of Alice in Wonderland?
Would you consider doing a post about all of your Alice books?

    1. He likes it, but he's not madly interested in it like I am. :D And yes, I might make a post about them some day! Sadly I left the crown jewel of my collection in the bookstore once when I was abroad, and thought it would be silly to pay so much for a book that I already had so many copies of. It was a very old edition from the 20's, and I still regret not buying it..

  10. Okay.. now I need to add this book to my Christmas list! What an absolutely beautiful edition! I also have quite a few different versions of Alice in Wonderland, all illustrated by different artists but this book brings the timeless story to life in a different and far more magical way. I can't believe the intricacy of the falling cards pop-up, that's just amazing! Thanks for sharing this wonderful book! ~♥~

  13. Oh my, that's really amazing! :D And the drawings resemble the ones in the original story a lot, don't day? It's been quite a long time since I read the original book but I really think they do.

    1. The drawing style was made on purpose, the creator wanted to be faithful to the old illustrations by John Tenniel. :)

  26. This is so beautiful! I've seen The Little Prince book (and I think they even translated it into more languages than just English and of course French) like this with moving pictures and stuff but I didn't know that there's also Alice in Wonderland. Although I can't even imagine how hard must have been the work on the whole design of it. It's astonishing, be proud that you own it :)
