Japanese Whispers

Some moments are like special glimpses of life with surreal undertones, little sequences that afterwards feel more like a beautiful dream.

I'd like to share one of those moments from this summer with you, a picnic with two wonderful, always inspiring ladies that I'm proud to call my friends. The photos are phone quality as I didn't carry my camera with me, but they open a portal to the evening nonetheless. I had no idea about a Japanese garden in Helsinki, but I'm glad I had the chance to experience it, and in such an elaborate way!

Special thanks go to Laura, if I only had known what kind of a prop she took with her I would've definitely put some more effort on my looks and wrapped myself inside a kimono. Just look at those treasures she brought with her; black silken lamps, cherry blossom embroidered blankets, black sushi, paper plates, everything! Even the precious visiting dogs fit the atmosphere somehow.

Here's my outfit for the evening, no oriental vibes there but I'll fix that for the next time. Which I sincerely hope will come someday!

    1. Thank you Carla, but the dress is actually black! Somehow it just seems more like dark purple in photos. :)

  5. What a beautiful place! ♥ I love japanese gardens. The pictures are beautiful, I can't believe you took them with a phone!

Now that it's warmer in Finland we can see you without tights! I love your outfit. Do you ever get comments about "how pale your legs are"? I have the idea that people in Finland are naturally pale and don't care about tanning, but I don't know. I'm from South America and if I get out without tights people tell me I'm too white and I have to tan, or just keep staring at me.

    1. Thanks so much, the phone surprised me too with the quality of its camera!

And yes, sometimes (although rarely) I hear comments about my pallor but many people here are as pale as I am so it's no biggie. Many just have an obsession to get a tan in summer, but I'm perfectly happy being white as a frozen turkey. It's so weird that some people think they have rights to comment about the colour of your skin! Just try not to care. :)

  6. Japanese Whispers...LOVE that singles collection from The Cure. Your picnic looks amazing - each and every detail! All of you look beautiful. I just recently found out about a local Japanese tea room and garden...I've been dying to go there.

  7. That's probably the most stylish picnic I can imagine, I also immediately noticed the black rice - so thorough. Huge compliment to your friend. :) But I'm afraid, now I have to get my hands on some of those black lanterns...
Besides, I really like the composition of the last photo.

    1. I was amazed to see the black rice too, she's so wonderfully thorough in these things! <3 I'd love to have a couple of those lamps too, but not yet since there's no garden or a balcony in this apartment.

  9. Cute french bulldogs! And you are as cute as always :) No cute is not the right word, ethereal is more like it. The garden looks like such a nice place for relaxation, alone or with friends. Lovely! .. I would like to ask you, if you don't mind telling me, how long did it take to grow your hair into that length? Approximately, just say some number that is close.. I'm curious :))

    1. Thanks so much! :) I can't really say a close number, I guess it took about..three years, maybe? I grew it from a pretty short length after I cut my dreadlocks off. My hair grows really, really fast so it's hard to say! I cut about 10cm off each year, last time was a few days before this picnic.

  10. Oh that garden is beautiful! You know they clear the moss from every single straw of grass to get that soft green bed. People should be happy about the moss in their lawns, its always green. Your picknic looks fantastic.

    1. Thank you! I simply love how the moss looks like velvet, it looks like it's straight from some Hayao Miyazaki's film! I'd love to have a bed like that in my garden someday. :)

  14. Such beautiful photos! You brought Asia to Finland! How perfect is that? Your friends really outdid themselves and what a beautiful place. I've been meaning to go to this Chinese garden that is nearby but it's not nearly as lovely as that area you guys were in. Your outfit looks really cyberpunk like your an Anime character. :P

    1. Oi miten ihanaa olisi asua tuon puutarhan läheisyydessä! Mahtava paikka hiljentymiseen. :)

Kiitos paljon lisäinfoista, joitain tauluja tuli paikalla lukaistua ja tiesinkin tuosta hanami-perinteestä jo entuudestaan. Hanamin aikaan pitää ehdottomasti tulla paikan päälle, ja tuolla Herttoniemen kartanolla pitää myös ehdottomasti joskus käväistä!

  18. Looks like a magical place! I'm sure you had a wonderful time that day. Would some kind of autumn picnic work there even in slight drizzle? Providing there would be blankets etc, what do you think? The table was covered so you can keep dry at least there, right?
