The Man With the X-Ray Eyes

The best month of the year has finally arrived!
*throwing imaginary confetti in the air*

October, October, even the word echoes so nicely in the vocal cords!
The highway to All Hallows Eve, filled with fog and edged with grinning pumpkins.
As Halloween is drawing closer I might be sharing more spooky things here than usual. ;)

Garments of today include: a thrifted dress from the 40's (one of the best second hand finds in quite some time I must say! Flea markets never seize to amaze me), also a thrifted veil hat from the 40's (paid a total 0,50€ for it, mwahah), a rib cage bag from ReStyle and Minna Parikka heels. The cold winds are blowing from Siberia and so a jacket and extra stockings are essential additions while going out.

(I love the details in this dress!)

Today's inspiration was snapped from the local hospital. I paid a visit there a little while ago (nothing too serious) and just had to draw my phone out of the bag and take a few souvenir pics from their cabinets of medical history. Taking phone pics in public always makes me feel like such a hipster, but who cares really! A box filled with vintage glass eyes, x-ray photo from the 30's, medical bottles, x-ray manuals.. I don't know how anyone could resist this stuff.

    3. You know, I had a hunch that you were the reader who shared my birthday and commented the last time, I just didn't check it! :)

    1. Oh thank you so much!
I love all those qualities in October, I wish this time of autumn could last more than a mere month. :(

  3. Dear, oh dear isn't it exciting! Since I've been in Finland though I'm always invaded by waves of nostalgia, remembering how it was like back home on Halloween. It was big! Streets filled with costumes people, decorations and sounds everywhere, and candy. So. Much. Candy. In Helsinki there are a few shops selling bone shaped ice cube makers to underline the event and that's about it. Or am I missing on something? Please can you tell me where to find happenings for this awesome night? It would be so kind of you, it would spare me a whole month of "I wish I could teleport to Canada just for this time of the year"!

    1. I actually have an ice cube maker like that! ;>

I love it how Halloween has stranded in Finland too, though I'm sure it's infinitely more flamboyant in the States and Canada! Some stores do sell Halloween decorations and costumes here, it seems to grow each year. Last year our Halloween party posse wasn't the only one dressed up at the bar so we're slowly getting to the same level. ;)

I'm actually not spending this Halloween in Finland and I'm not sure about what's going on in different cities, but a couple of events popped into my mind! If you like horror costume parties and burlesque, Horror & Tease might be your thing!:

In Helsinki there's at least Night Visions movie event: https://www.facebook.com/nightvisionsfestival

At the moment I don't know about other parties, sorry hon! I wish I could help you more!

    2. Hahah really! : DD
Are you kidding this helps a lot. It helps to the moral too, to know it's growing here. Thank you very much. You made me curious, where are you going to spend your spooky day? :3
Heh and yes where I'm from, the French Canada, my whole town would just turn into a great masquerade of horror. Awesomeness at its pure state. ^^
Thank you for taking the time to reply. :) Have a nice day/evening!

    3. Oh yay, I'm glad I was helpful! I'm going to spend that day traveling, to Berlin I presume. ;) I'm sure your town must look awesome on Halloween, it sure sounds like it! Wish we could have that tradition in Finland too!

  4. The vintage goods must love you :) You look stunning in your "new" dress. I never seems to find anything pretty when it comes to clothes and I visit second hand shops at least once a week. I find a lot of beautiful furniture though but I can`t fit anything into our already crammed apartment :P I worry all the time that I the shops will run out of those furniture the day I finally can move to a bigger place haha.
Hope you will get well soon.

    1. Thank you! I like to dig deep into the piles so maybe that's why I find treasures, but mostly it's all about luck! And sometimes it feels like some people don't know the true value of vintage garments and sell them like trinkets, but I'm sure not complaining. ;)

You know, I have the EXACT same problem! I've found my dream couch set (velvety rococo style) like three times and still can't buy it as our old couch is still working and there's no room in this apartment anyways. Booo! But we'll both get those pieces of furniture, so let's not worry about it. :) The time for bigger apartments will come someday!

And thank you for your kindness, I'm fine really. Just had a routine check-up!

  6. I always admire your pictures, paintings and decorations on walls in your home. Where do you get these nice frames? I'm decorating my new flat in present and I can't seem to find anything that would fit me. :)
Also the pictures from hospital are very cool! Abandoned hospitals, old medical equipment etc.. I like that very much.
Enjoy October! (It's too soon to say Happy Halloween)

    1. Thanks so much! I've bought over 90% of them second hand, and just repaint them the way I like. :) You should try to explore all the second hand stores near you, I always find them to be the best places to find things for home (and basically everything)!

I love old medical equipment too, sooo much. And everything abandoned makes my heart skip a beat, hehe. I hope you enjoy October too hon!

  7. What a beautiful and wonderfully fitted dress, you must have some of the best flea markets around your area! That case of artificial eyes is fantastically creepy! I love old medical equipment and ephemera, it always brings to mind Dr. Frankenstein or Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde! I've recently been looking for old medical/poison bottles on eBay to display dried flowers in!

    1. Thank you! It's a small town but the flea markets here can really surprise you, I don't even go there weekly and still manage to find treasures. I've actually got a few medical bottles/erlenmayer flasks and I can say that dry flowers do look nice in them. :> The crazy scientist vibes are unavoidable!

  8. Tykkään sun mausta ihan hulluna. Ootko ajatellut tehdä sellast oikein isoa sisustuspostausta?

Marraskuu sananakin on tosiaan upea!

  13. You had me at Hallow. <3 Täällä odotetaan halloween-yötä kuin täysikuuta nousevaa. :) Ja tahtoisin muuten etsiä käsiini vanhoja sairaalakamoja, etenkin mielisairaaloista! Tosin ehkä kiero mieleni selittyy sillä että olen itse opiskelemassa psykiatriseksi sairaanhoitajaksi. ;)

Ja sinä olet kaunis, niin kuin aina. <3

    1. Uu, mun mielestä se on ehdottomasti sairaanhoidon mielenkiintoisin alue! Joitan noita vanhoja sairaalakamoja eksyy välillä antiikkikauppoihin, kaverini osti kerran viime vuosisadan alun (vai oliskohan ollut 20-luku, en muista) lääkeruiskun peltirasiassaan ja aaah miten katselin sitä kaihoisasti. :')

      Ja kiitos paljon! <3

    1. Me too! And thank you so much, I feel really lucky I found this dress. :) Vintage can be so damn expensive sometimes that I make most of my finds from second hand stores where people don't always know the value of pieces like this one. I actually have two other dresses from the 40's (really from there and not 80's repro) and I love them both! <3
