Strewn with time's dead flowers, Bereft in deathly bloom

I slumbered the previous week in my childhood home, mostly just relaxing and cleaning the closets and the garage from dust and memories. It felt wonderful; leafing through old photographs, grinning at drawings and the sometimes frightening inner landscape of a 5-year old me, and walking down the memory lane with the most beloved toys.

Somewhere between all that I also made hairdos for me and my mother! She was thrilled to get the kind of beehive she's dreamed of, and in return it made me happy to see her smile. Clearly I didn't put all that much effort on mine as it started to sag in a few hours, but I still wanted to snap a few pics for you. I loved the decorations in this one, especially those black cherries.

So here's what I wore on a cloudy afternoon. The dress is mom's, hair accessories are all second hand and tights and necklace are from Back Street, in case someone wished to know. Nothing says summer like black lace, skeleton hands and faux roses, right? ;)

Dreaming in the garden and tending the flowers made me really sad about living in a high-rise. Envy is a waste of emotion and I do my best to avoid it at all times, but I can't help feeling a little green about gardens! I wish I'll have a garden of my own some day, with crooked cherry and apple trees, a pumpkin patch and a field of roses, and a secret hideout beneath the trees. Until then I can always dream and circle in the gardens of others.

  1. Ihana looki! Ja hiuskoristeet ovat suloisia, sopivan kesäisiä ! ;) Minäkin haaveilen omasta puutarhasta, romanttisesta ja idyllisestä sellaisesta. Tällä hetkellä parvekkeella vain yksi muovikukka (jee). :D

    1. Kiitoksia!

  5. I think your hair looks fantastic & I think it's great that you can spend that type of quality time with your Mom my Mom was never accepting of who I am & still entirely isn't but I've learned to live with that. A garden would be quite lovely I've always wanted to give back to the earth so I to hope to have my own garden someday. <3

    1. Thanks so much! I'm glad to hear you've learned to live with that and at the same time sad to hear that your mom hasn't been all that supportive about your looks. I hope she will be someday!

I also hope that you'll get a garden of your own someday. :) Gardens are so special, soothing and exciting at the same time.

  7. Your hairdo is just beautiful *_*...
Love especially the berries on it, maybe i'll try to make something
    like this for myself ^_^.
I'm at my moms house as well ,right now.
She's living at the countryside and also has a huge garden.
It's way more lovely to sit down there to draw something or read a book :).
Will miss it, when I'm in the city again -.-.

    1. Thank you! ^^ The berries are originally from a wreath, I got them from mom to use in some DIY project, so I put them in my hair.

It's the same thing here, my parents live in the countryside and have a garden there, and I always miss it when I return to my own home in the city!

  10. Ah, I so share your pain as for desiring a garden of my own...
I've noticed that you often write about pinching this and that from your mother, sounds like she also has an exceptional taste, but I'm taking a wild guess by assuming her headpiece got no skeleton hands? :D That said, I really like this whole combination of elegance and creepiness.

    1. You're right, the skeleton hands and roses were from my own jewelry box. :D She has a lot of neat things in her wardrobe and we share a similar fascination on some style aspects, but her style is usually a blast of colour, especially the shades of orange and flaming red. I'm like a reflection, clad all in black and white.

  15. Even though your hair sagged, I think it still looks great. The sagging gives it a melancholy touch to your look :) And how lucky you are you can share dresses with your mom! MY mom and I don't have the same size, nor taste, so for us that would never work...

    Xoxo, Glitter

    1. Oh thank you! It wasn't even supposed to be a proper hairdo, but then I put those accessories there and suddenly it was one. So I didn't mind the sagging too much!

Our sizes and tastes aren't perfect matches either, but some pieces are similar to both of us. I've actually even sold her many vintage-inspired dresses and even more shoes from my wardrobe! :D So we do have the same taste on some things.

  18. Woes of being a goth. :)) How do you stay so lovely pale when it's so hot outside? Tons of suncream and skipping into the shadows? Or is it cooler there in Finland?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Finland is surprisingly hot in the summertime, sometimes almost painfully so! I have naturally a very pale complexion and I burn easily, so I do use sunscreen whenever I'm forced to expose myself to the sun. I do prefer the shadows, but sometimes it's nice to sit in the sun for a while. But usually I get nauseous really quickly and sun drains my powers, so I try to avoid it.
