Hibernation

Wanted to share these photos from the heart of winter before the season drips slowly away.

I can't believe winter is withering away so soon, there weren't even remotely enough freezing days for my taste. This winter was far from easy and I was mentally hibernating for the greater part, but in the spring I get ridiculously nostalgic about winter. Clinging to the memory of glittering fields, silent woods and all the dear dead flowers. The animal prints in the virgin snow and the distant winter sun, and even the cold that sucks all warmth from your bones.

Looking at these photos I'm reminded of one thing: you know your sister must love you when there's almost -20 degrees outside and she still agrees to follow you on a snowy field to capture a few frames.

  2. we got a few days around -15 degrees this winter and I almost died XD I don't like winter, and I don't like cold. And I moved from sunny, warm seaside to continental, cold part. Very smart decision....haha :D
Other than that you look stunning, like an ice fairy :)

    1. Hehe, I just made the exact opposite move, from the icy Eastern border to the warmer Western side! "What is this sissy excuse for winter!" crossed my mind at first but a friend of mine told me this city can get really cold too. I guess it was just a mellow winter in general. I think -10 to -15 is the best kind of cold, but I don't mind the -30 degrees either. Makes me feel like I need to survive in a post apocalyptic world, so I take those days as an adventure. :D

      And thank you so much!

    1. The white landscape does feel peaceful, it's one of my favourite things about winter. Everything is so clear and deathly quiet, I really enjoy it.

Juu, mekko on vintagea, löytyi yhden puodin nurkasta Budapestista samaan aikaan sen Halloween-mekon kanssa. :) Valkeita mekkoja käytän itse asiassa aika paljonkin (harvemmin vaan eksynyt blogin puolelle), oon erityisen mieltynyt näihin pitkiin, valkeisiin vintagelöytöihin.

  7. Lovely photos!!! Those rose photos are perfect! And you look great, too. This winter was a disappointment for me, I prefer cold and sunny days rather than those cloudy +1 days...

    1. Thank you so much Anniina! <3 I got so lucky with the roses, they looked like that for one morning only.
And I agree, the cold days are better than the slushy grey ones.

  14. Beautifull as allways:) I was wondering something, since you like to wear vintage things, have you ever thought about energy from previous owners that maybe stays "trapped" in them? Or do you even believe in such kind of things?:)

    1. Thank you Rosie! I have thought about that many times, especially with my small collection of black dresses from the 40's (funeral dresses, I imagine). I love wearing them but some of them feel different, and I can't help thinking if they belonged to some Finnish war widow. Like there's little drops of grief and memories stuck into them like sweat. But it doesn't prevent me from wearing them, I love vintage too much!

I agree. We didnt even have a winter over here in south Sweden, maybe a week or two of snow... sigh.
But hey, spring is awesome too, and let's hope for a badass winter next time! I also need my dose of coldness. ^^

    1. Thank you! Somehow I feel more comfortable in the cold, although I do sometimes enjoy trips to the warmer climate and the occasional Finnish sauna. I'm not quite as excited about spring as it usually brings deep waters of depression with it, but I'm trying my best to stay afloat this spring! :)

  20. Dear mothy (just felt like giving you a cute nickname!), what happened to your septum? I mean, you look beautiful, gorgeous, and stunning with and without, but is there a specific reason why you dont wear it? :)

    Hugs!!

    1. Aww, loving the nickname!
I hadn't even noticed the absence of septum in the photos! I didn't wear it regularly for about a couple of months, as I was scouting for apartments and jobs but mainly because I wanted to feel how it was to be more neutral. Not like that helped at all with my applications, (seriously, no effect although people can usually be so conservative), but basically I wanted to know how I'd feel without it. And it felt so weird not having it on! I think it grew on me during the years we've been stuck together. :)

  24. Oh! I'm the same kind as you! I really like winter and I get a bit sad when it all melts away and revealing the brown ground and dried grass. I think february and march are great winter months if it's cold enough. The photo of the frosen roses is lovely and it was a surprise to find you dressed in white. Lovely photos all of them!

I'm visiting your blog every day to see if you have posted because I find it the most interesting I've come across in a long time and I'm starting to worry since you haven't been posting in months. I really hope nothing serious has occurred. Best wishes!
