Hairesis maxima est opera maleficarum non credere

Post Halloween Greetings from Salem! Or any other place where the sickly puritanian hysteria took root, cutting away the lives of innocents.

First I was going with a more complex costume, but then I found this vintage piece hanging in my closet and went with it. (The noose however wasn't hanging in my closet, I'm not that desperate.) It's not historically accurate nor does it deviate much from my usual look, but I liked it anyway. I'm itching to try the same costume idea again, but as a "burned at the stake" edition. Anyway, I had a great night and my guests were sublime as ever! I forgot to take any pictures with all the fun I was having, but we had a visit for example from the Queen of Hearts, Wicked Witch of the West and even a Soul.

I wish the Halloween season could have gone on for longer, but I'm sure the horror dose will fuel me for some time. Did you have a nice Samhain? Any parties or costumes you'd like to share? :)

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Happy Halloween night to all ghouls and witches who roam the night tonight!

I know I've been absent, but let's just say that some wicked things have been eager to come my way and life always comes first. I've had inspiration but not the time, and would rather not feel guilty about it now. It is, after all, the best time of the year!

Here's an outfit from a warmer, early October day when I thought it would be a foolish idea to wear those heels for a daywalk, and did it anyway. (Looking back, it seems that I also might have watched too many AHS Coven episodes in a row.) In case someone is curious; the hat is vintage from Budapest, bag is also vintage, shoes are a gift from a friend, dress is H&M+DIY, and the cardigan is an ancient piece from my teen years.

I'm holding a small Halloween party tomorrow, and there's still so much to do! Midnight is closing in and I had to make coffee to stay awake, I'll likely be burning the midnight oil for many hours to come. My costume isn't nearly finished and neither is the tidiness of our nest, but dust and cobwebs go beautifully with Halloween, right? Now I really must continue with the chores, maybe later tonight I'll watch Hocus Pocus while sewing, to get in the right mood. I hope the result will be even remotely what I planned, we'll see!

The Witching Hour

Hello you pretty ghouls, and Happy Halloween night to each and everyone of you! The border between the living and the spirit world is at its thinnest tonight, so celebration is in order. Mine has been mild so far, just a glass of red while sinking into my sister's couch in Helsinki.

I must confess that I'm just starting to feel like celebrating All Hallow's Eve. I love this holiday of treats and various tricks so very much, but this year I haven't been as much in the mood as I usually am. I'm not throwing a crazy party or building a costume and draining ounces of love in the creation process, so maybe skipping the usual preparations has led me into this state.

This year is different because I'll be in Berlin for the next few days. I'll be back some time next week, hopefully with some stories and photos! We don't have any tight schedules or plans but there's some places we both want to visit. Thank you for all the tips you gave, they were very helpful and I really appreciate the effort!

Here's bits of today's witchy outfit. Could be a Halloween costume of sorts, the hat always feels overly dramatic. The last supper of heels and trinkets, as by now I've switched to my travel mode of practical simplicity and minimal packing. I'll be on the road for three weeks, we'll see what kind of adventures they hold!

The Man With the X-Ray Eyes

The best month of the year has finally arrived!
*throwing imaginary confetti in the air*

October, October, even the word echoes so nicely in the vocal cords!
The highway to All Hallows Eve, filled with fog and edged with grinning pumpkins.
As Halloween is drawing closer I might be sharing more spooky things here than usual. ;)

Garments of today include: a thrifted dress from the 40's (one of the best second hand finds in quite some time I must say! Flea markets never seize to amaze me), also a thrifted veil hat from the 40's (paid a total 0,50€ for it, mwahah), a rib cage bag from ReStyle and Minna Parikka heels. The cold winds are blowing from Siberia and so a jacket and extra stockings are essential additions while going out.

(I love the details in this dress!)

Today's inspiration was snapped from the local hospital. I paid a visit there a little while ago (nothing too serious) and just had to draw my phone out of the bag and take a few souvenir pics from their cabinets of medical history. Taking phone pics in public always makes me feel like such a hipster, but who cares really! A box filled with vintage glass eyes, x-ray photo from the 30's, medical bottles, x-ray manuals.. I don't know how anyone could resist this stuff.

A peek into our Halloween party!

Exactly one week ago our tiny flat was inhabited by a couple of Deaths, a killer clown (I think I died for a little instant), Venom, hipster Ariel, Black Swan, Great Cthulhu himself, creepy doll and a bunch of other perfectly normal folks. Also known as friends. And I'm happy to the bone that everyone had dressed up so neatly!

Sickly sweet & green punch and other delicious poisons flowed like blood and everyone had a great time, that's about all I have to say about the night. Except that I could insert a lot of hearts in here. And that I kind of wish I could throw a party like this every month.

(all Instagram photos are from my friend's phone)
Darth Vader kissing V. Oh boy, I'm going to cherish this photo forever.

I hope you all had a great Halloween!

It's the V to the A to the D - E - R

-"You don't know the power of the dark side!"

Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith and the father of Luke and Leia, a.k.a. my Halloween costume! :> I've worn many, many costumes in my life (well you all know how much I adore theme parties), but this, one of my dearest childhood antiheroes, was special. I've been a Star Wars film geek since the budding age of five or so, back in those days I drew Lord Vader parachuted in space, shouting "HELP! HELP!" in Finnish, chased with bombs fired by a naively sketched Millenium Falcon. Probably the best piece of art I've ever made!

And about the suit: I'm pretty sure Vader didn't wear high heels and pvc skirts, but I was meant to be a female version so let's not cling too much on the details. After all, I had a red light saber and my Force worked pretty well after a couple of drinks, so it felt like a success! Did you dress up for Halloween? I'd love to hear about your costumes!

(And oh, here's a little theme video bonus for you, whoever made this should get a big hug. ♥)

Halloween derby practice

I was supposed to post these pics after Friday night's roller derby practice, but Halloween and fatigue took their strong hold of me before I made it to the computer. Anyway, here's a couple of late views on Friday's rolling horror workout! I loved to see how everyone had dressed up so neatly, covered in different types of make-up and gore, but I have absolutely no idea what my own costume was. I ran out of time so the result was some kind of a long lost lovechild between Alice Cooper, a jar of glitter and Beetlejuice, go figure. :D

(My main costume of this year was slightly better, and I'll post it soon!)

Boneshaker Baby

This jumper is my favorite piece of clothing this week! (Well who wouldn't love knitted bones?) It's one of those pieces that I like to call comfort clothes, it's been a painfully grim week and the cozy softness of the jumper almost fully protects me from the bites of countless tasks and deadlines that are draining my energy more effectively than any Dracula ever could. Almost.

It also gets me in a more playful and ghoulish mood for All Hallows Eve! And it looks surprisingly feminine when paired with a tight pencil skirt and a corset underneath, although originally it's meant for little boys. :D Plus it's warm, so it keeps the frosty October/November air and chilly gusts away from my bones.

And some other things I enjoy right now, all connected to Halloween. The remains of my positive attitude supplies fortify themselves with Halloweeny things, so here we go!:

Films that get you into that special Halloween mood. Nightmare before Christmas and Hocus Pocus are childhood classics (and once, a long long time ago, my brother lured me to see Pet Semetary by promising it's a cute animal movie. Yeah, really cute..!!) and they simply must be watched in these Jack'O'Lantern lit times. Which leads my thoughts to..

Pumpkins! Tomorrow I'm aiming to carve the very first pumpkin of my whole life! These little monsters still have the grocery shop's stickers on them, I'm not sure which grins I'm going to replace them with but we'll see. I'm so excited, this is something I've always wanted to do but never quite got a chance! Unfortunately we don't have a balcony or yard in this house so we'll have to be careful not to burn the whole place down to a smothering pile of dreams and coals with these babies.

Halloween decor and plans! We're going to throw a bone-shaking Halloween party for friends on Saturday, last year was so great that the pics never made their way into this blog, thehhee. I actually still have a sketch post in my archives but I guess a whole year is a too long time gap for posting it. The Oogie Boogie costume that my friend made has since become legendary.

Tomorrow we're having a Halloween roller derby practice, I can't wait! Zombie tag and other grisly games are in the repertoire, all played on wheels of course. :) It'll also be a horror of another kind for me since my new skates are killing my poor little feet, it'll take some time, sweat and blisters to break them in but they're worth it.

My Halloween costume! Can't turn the clock to go faster, but I'd love to wear it already. I need to tweak some details and it's still not going to be perfect, nowhere near that, but it might just be my favorite costume so far. Maybe because I have a special bond with the character. But you'll see it after Saturday. ;) I wish you all a ghastly great Halloween weekend, have a fun & spooky time!

"I guess some people are just born with tragedy in their blood"

dress ~ Skeleton Key Dress by Lip Service  /  trench coat ~ Asos  /  shoes ~ Arrogant Minnie
bag ~Lindex  / necklace ~Etsy (Dahlia Deranged)

Saturday night's outfit, featuring spine heels, little black velvety dress and hair that was still partly wet after the shower. Well, sometimes there's just not enough minutes for a proper hairdo! We also had about five minutes to take the outfit pics before the dark night wolfed down what remained of the daylight.

And when the darkness fell upon this part of the world, we had a truly relaxed and fun night! Just the two of us hanging out at home couch and celebrating my birthday. With loads of delicious drinks and some great autumnal movies, naturally. Including one special favorite, Donnie Darko. If you haven't seen it, you definitely should! It's simply brilliant, the characters, the soundtrack, the quotes, the philosophy of time travel and the whole package really, I love it. And I swear that I'm going to dress up as Frank some Halloween!

This year's costume for All Hallows Eve is already decided, can't wait to put it on. It just needs a few adjustments and I'm good to go! Have you got any plans for your costume yet? :)

Hallowedding!

Vierailin eilen illalla mahdollisesti maailman kauneimmissa Halloween-hääjuhlissa, avioliiton satamaan purjehti joukkuetoveri Wicked Honey ja lähdettiin parin ihanan rullatytön kera juhlistamaan tapausta. Heti juhlapaikan ovesta astuttuani kaduin hiukan että jätin järkkärin kotiin nukkumaan, vanhan pokkarin kuvanlaatu kun on hieman karmivaa mutta halusin vangita edes pari kaunista yksityiskohtaa illasta.

The wedding cake! Or what's left of it..
Danny Elfman ~ The Wedding Song (Corpse Bride soundtrack)

I attended my roller derby friend Wicked Honey's wedding party last night and immediately felt sorry for not bringing a better camera with me. My ancient pocket camera tried it's best to capture even tiny bits of the ambience, it was truly a fun night in good company and unbeliviable surroundings.
The party place was a gorgeous old mansion filled with wonderful antique and horror decor, I'd move in there anytime. All the guests were dressed in horror costumes and the bride and groom were absolutely beautiful in their dark outfits! There were cobwebs and candles everywhere, and I especially loved the idea of the Nightmare Before Christmas wedding cake. I was in a terrible hurry when dressing up, so I had to pick my clothes that popped into my head, but I managed to blend in quite well. Halloween is an easy time for goths, you can wear your normal clothes and people still think you're all dressed up for the occasion. ;)
Lots of love and happiness to the newlyweds!
