She saw the stars on gravestones, and sung the sky in blood

An outfit from a few days ago, on a spring walk before entering the red seats of the cinema. I'm heavily addicted to ranger looks again, big hoods, boots and simple black forms have covered most of my days. The cloak has been almost glued to my shoulders, it's the perfect shield for prawling the woods or running busy errands!

Spring is definitely my least-favourite season, but I can't help but loving nature just before it starts to bloom. It's so stagnant, with all the shades of grey and brown mixed up in a wonderfully bleak palette.

And about the cinema. We went to see Only Lovers Left Alive, and both liked it very much! A rare treat for any artsy or vampire film lover. The film was beautifully shot, with a dreamy slow pace that's best for the days when you need some slow drama in your life. It's worth watching for the performances of Hiddleston and Swinton alone, I find it rare to see believable romance on the silver screen and both were so compelling in their roles. And beyond beautiful!

Extra points for the mentions of Kit Marlowe and Nikola Tesla! (I always get childishly excited when someone mentions Tesla!) Also one of the best things about the film was that it didn't underestimate the intelligence of its viewers, which usually is a common flaw in the modern vampire film pool. Only Lovers Left Alive was slow, clever and shamelessly stylish, and I think the drowsy scenes fit the immortal life perfectly. Not my favourite vampire film, but still a very good one.

The film really made me want to listen to melancholic Arabic-influenced music and travel to see the decay of DetroitSome films just cling to the back of your head for days after you've seen them, like a tangible dream. Do you ever get the same feeling, thinking about a film for days, different twists and camera angles, and all that could have been?

  1. Films often have the same effect on me, even if the film wasn't even worthwhile!
I also want to say how much I enjoy your blog. I've been lurking around for several months, and finally decided to say "Hello." :)

    1. It's true, even some really crappy films make that effect!
And it's good to hear you enjoy my ramblings, I'm glad you said hello :)

  2. Kävin myös kasomassa kyseisen elokuvan kun se ilmestyi.
Harvoin pääsen sanomaan, mutta lähestulkoon rakastuin päähenkilöihin.

    1. Sama! Ihan mieletön karisma kummallakin. Voisin vaan tuijottaa Tilda Swintonin kasvoja ties kuinka kauan, ellei se olisi liian creepyä. :D

  5. I've got very similar boots and after I started wearing them, and found out how comfortable they are, I also started buying shoes with chunky heels, since I realized that walking in them isn't that difficult either (compared to stilettos). Nevertheless, I'd like to ask you, what is the best way to treat sore feet and skin caused by wearing high heels? I'm sure that, concerning your experience, you"ll have some tips to share with us. Thanks a lot! Oh, and I definitely have to see the film. The thought of a new vampire film that isn't about high school teenagers always makes me happier. :)

    1. Well, if I have a long night ahead with very high heels, I usually use an ointment that prevents blisters from forming in the problem areas, especially if the shoes are new. And gel cushions beneath the balls of your feet will usually prevent sore feet. It's also advisable to massage your feet after wearing high heels for a long time. :) Can't think of anything else right now, but these tips should help!

I hope you like the film!

  8. OH! MY! GOD! The first pic! Wrap in a gift box and send to my address, please oh please!

And about the movie - I had a very similar feeling with works of David Lynch. Twin Peaks of course. And the Lost highway! I could not stop thinking about it for a very long time. So many incredible shots!

    1. Hehe, you're so sweet Grace, thank you! <3

David Lynch has a lot of puzzles in his films so no wonder that the audience thinks about the films for days and days. And not always in a good way, some images are just too disturbing to be quickly forgotten. :D And the world of Twin Peaks is something else, the feeling in it is so intense. I always feel a sad little nudge in my insides when it's over. And I feel the need to enter that world pretty often, that's why I watch the whole series about twice a year.

  9. After some movies or series, I have the feeling that for a moment it was part of my life. The next days I feel like something is missing, I feel despressed or nostalgic. The same way you feel when you're far from your family, when someone you love is away. The characters, atmospheres, landcapes or locations leave an empty space in my mind. When a series or movie I loved ends, I mourn it for days. That's a feeling I love. I like that my mind needs to live in other worlds, other times. Books have the same effect on me.

    1. I share your feeling wholeheartedly. Some sagas, whether in TV or books, leave a mark on you and then a little sadness grips you when it's all over. It's somehow a lovely feeling, and it's even more lovely to be able to enter that world again whenever you wish to. :) I think you put it so well; "I like that my mind needs to live in other worlds, other times". I feel the same way!

  11. I would like to know what is your favourite vampire film?

    ReplyDelete

    1. That's a tough one! I might have to go with Bram Stoker's Dracula by Francis Ford Coppola, because Gary Oldman is too good for words in that role, and the film is a true classic.

Nosferatu and Interview with the Vampire are also classics to me so they're worth mentioning. And I could mention a few others from the modern films, I really love Låt den rätte komma in (the original Swedish version of Let me in) and I also liked 30 Days of Night, just because it's the only vampire movie I've seen that was genuinely threatening.

But all in all, I love to watch vampire films, even the really bad ones. :D
